Social Media Challenge Drives Year-End Donations

In the wake of the COVID pandemic, one group of North Carolina citizens has been hit particularly hard – newly-diagnosed, low-income breast cancer patients. In an effort to raise money to serve this vulnerable population and spread awareness, Pretty In Pink Foundation has launched The Christmas Carol Challenge. This social media event is designed to get participants in the holiday spirit and, to date, has raised more than $1,300.

In spite of the challenging year, Pretty In Pink Foundation is continuing its track record of helping more and more patients every year. In 2020, more than 250 uninsured and under-insured breast cancer patients across North Carolina will receive funds from Pretty In Pink to pay for surgery, chemotherapy administration, and radiation treatment. This small non-profit organization, even during this year of reduced income and increased demand for services, has not turned away a single qualified applicant.

“Many non-profits are struggling during this pandemic,” said Becky Horn, Executive Director of Pretty In Pink Foundation. “It’s important for us to find creative ways to continue raising money so we can, in turn, continue helping North Carolina breast cancer patients who need our help now more than ever.”

More than 15 Christmas Carol Challenge videos have been shared on Instagram and Facebook, helping to raise $1,310 (and counting). To take the challenge, the Foundation is asking participants to sing 15 to 30 seconds their favorite Christmas song captured on video, pledge a donation of at least $25 to Pretty In Pink Foundation, and challenge three friends to do the same. Post the video to Facebook and/or Instagram and use hashtags- #ChristmasCarolChallenge and #PrettyInPinkFoundation. The challenge remains open until midnight, December 24, 2020.
