Connie found out she had Stage II breast cancer just one day after her 70th birthday in September of 2022. It was a shocking diagnosis for this author…who is no stranger to trauma. Connie has PTSD after surviving an EF3 tornado that struck Snow Hill in 2011. She used her trauma to help others by writing a book— On The Inside Looking Out: The aftermath of a tornado…living with PTSD. Now she faced a new challenge—battling breast cancer. Connie knew that if she could survive that tornado- she was strong enough to fight this horrible disease.
But what she did not expect was the enormity of her medical bills. She is retired and on Medicare and faced hefty bills for radiation. She found Pretty In Pink online and applied for assistance. “I was quite excited when I found out I was accepted as a Champion. The process was so quick and extremely helpful.”
Connie journaled her progress and wrote a new book– Did I Survive All That To Go Through This? She’s thankful to have discovered Pretty In Pink along the way to make her journey easier. “Thank God there’s an organization that understands what a woman goes through,” explained Connie. “That can sympathize with you, walk with you through the process, rally you on and support you.”
