Record Number of Champions in 2023

Pretty In Pink Foundation is continuing its track record of helping more and more breast cancer patients every year in their battle against this deadly disease. The nonprofit reached an unprecedented milestone in 2023, by serving more than 500 uninsured and under-insured breast cancer patients across North Carolina.

“We are excited to share the news of our record-breaking year,” said Tara Coppedge, director of marketing and communications for Pretty In Pink Foundation. “Our goal is to serve every qualified applicant who comes to us needing financial assistance for their lifesaving medical treatment. Thankfully, we’ve been able to meet the increased need head on to make sure these vulnerable breast cancer patients get their chance to beat this awful disease.”

In 2023, Pretty In Pink Foundation served 512 Champions across North Carolina– 350 uninsured and under-insured breast cancer patients received funds to pay for surgery, chemotherapy administration, and radiation treatment. More than 160 additional breast cancer patients were served through their Beyond the Ribbon program. The overall number of Champions for 2023 is up 25% over the previous year.

“I have been in my role at Pretty In Pink for seven years and applications are coming in at a higher rate than I have ever seen,” explained Anna Sims, patient services manager for Pretty In Pink. “We are so grateful for our generous and compassionate donors who make it possible to grow each year.”

Pretty In Pink reaches a wide-range of breast cancer patients across the entire state of North Carolina. In 2023, they served Champions in 69 counties, who range in age from 24 to 87 years old. Ninety-three percent of Champions in 2023 were under-insured, while 7% were uninsured.

One of those under-insured Champions is Michelle, a contract interpreter in Winston-Salem. “It’s difficult and sometimes impossible to work. However, the bills continue to come in,” said Michelle. “With Pretty In Pink helping, it eases the stress of financial concerns facing cancer patients—and one thing a cancer patient needs to avoid is stress.”
